About This Spot

Stepping into Chu Yu Japanese Cuisine’s Taishun Branch feels like entering a quietly refined space where the focus gently draws you toward the art of sushi and the rhythm of thoughtful hospitality. The intimate setting, with seating for fewer than twenty guests, invites a slower pace—one that encourages savoring each moment and each bite. Here, the atmosphere hums with a composed energy, part reverence for tradition and part warmth of genuine welcome.

The experience unfolds subtly, led by chefs whose skill and attentiveness frame every element of the meal. There’s a comforting sense of care in how the daily catch is presented—fresh, purposeful, never rushed—blended with unexpected touches like the light seasoning of pickled white radish that cleanse the palate and prepare you for the next delight. It’s a place where familiar Japanese flavors meet delicate interpretations, and where even the silkiest uni or plump oysters carry an intimate story of the sea and season.

What truly lingers is not just the taste but the quiet conversations with chefs who patiently translate each course’s essence, inviting diners into a shared moment of discovery. The delicate layering in a steamed seafood custard or the nuanced warmth of a miso soup feels like small acts of kindness crafted to enrich the evening.

Chu Yu’s Taishun location holds a steady confidence—its reputation built on consistent quality and gracious service rather than fanfare. Whether you’re a seasoned omakase enthusiast or stepping into this style of dining for the first time, the unfolding experience here meets you with an understated generosity and an honest respect for the ingredients.

For those seeking a quieter pause amidst the city’s pace, this sushi haven offers not just a meal but a gentle invitation to slow down, appreciate the craftsmanship in every piece, and enjoy the warmth that comes from genuine attentiveness in both food and service.

No need to be careful! The fish was very fresh, properly prepared, and had no bloody taste. Because it's a chain restaurant, the quality control is excellent! The service was also superb. The chefs and servers were both above average.

For the price, this sushi omakase restaurant offers excellent value. At around $70, I was able to enjoy a full variety of high-end fish that would typically cost $150+ at other places. All the dishes were well-prepared, with the only small issue being that the sanma wasn’t fully defrosted. Other than that, everything was on point. The restaurant seats about 18, but there were only 7 guests during our dinner, which made it a very intimate and comfortable experience. With just one chef behind the counter, he was able to focus on every detail. You could tell he was a bit nervous, but he clearly cared and did his best to provide a thoughtful, enjoyable experience. Portions were generous—so much so that I was completely full by the end and couldn’t order any add-ons, even though I had planned to try the uni daily special, one of my favorites. Well… next time! Special highlights for me were the tuna with marinated egg roll and the red snapper—both were absolutely delicious. Would definitely return.

Amazing Omakase experience. All the dishes were delicious and we were SUPER full. The Chef was also very friendly and translated everything in English for us. Fresh fish and incredibly sushi master skill. Highly recommend. The 20 (?) course menu was around 4,500NTD for 2 people. And we added sake, caviar and the fish of the day which all in all came up to 7,500NTD. Good value for money considering the quality and quality of food.

Our first omakase experience in Taipei proved to be an exceptional one! The chef taking care of us, Chef Huang, was really attentive and adaptive to the needs and feedbacks of his guests. Food was great (~19 courses), seafood was extremely fresh (especially oysters and uni), and the pairing of the food with their respective sauces were spot on. Loved the ambience of the place, this is definitely a great place to bring your family and friends!

The traditional and elegant atmosphere instantly transported us to Japan. The space was spotless and serene. We were lucky to have the entire private room for our family gathering, which made the experience feel extra special. The service was excellent—warm, attentive, and professional. Every dish was incredibly fresh and delicious. From the appetizers to the dessert, each course was a delightful surprise that kept us eagerly anticipating the next. You can truly feel the chef’s care and creativity in every bite. Bringing my family here was such a proud moment—everyone loved it! It’s definitely a place I’ll return to again.
